Navyug — JNV Andaman Alumni Association ("Navyug", "we", "us", or "our") operates the website https://navyugandaman.in and any associated mobile application (collectively, the "Platform"). This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. By registering on or using the Platform, you agree to the practices described below.
1. Information we collect
When you register or use the Platform, we collect the following categories of information:
- Identity & profile data: full name, gender, date of birth, profile photograph, JNV school, batch year, occupation, blood group, address.
- Contact data: email address, mobile number, and links to public social profiles (LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, etc.) that you choose to share.
- Authentication data: hashed password, email verification OTP, last-seen timestamps, and session cookies.
- Transaction data: donation amount, fundraiser/campaign, membership tier, Razorpay payment ID, payment status, and invoice metadata. We do not store full card numbers, CVVs, UPI PINs, or net-banking credentials — these are handled directly by Razorpay.
- Content data: community posts, comments, reactions, event registrations, and direct messages you send through the Platform.
- Technical data: IP address, device type, browser type, operating system, and basic usage logs.
2. How we use your information
- To create and manage your alumni account, including the batch-coordinator approval workflow.
- To verify your identity as a genuine Navodayan from your declared JNV and batch.
- To process membership fees, donations, and fundraiser contributions via Razorpay.
- To display your profile, posts, and event participation within the alumni community.
- To enable real-time messaging and notifications between members.
- To send transactional emails (OTP, receipts, approval status) and important platform announcements.
- To maintain platform security, prevent abuse, and comply with applicable law.
3. Sharing of information
We do not sell your personal data. We share limited information only in these cases:
- Payment processor: Razorpay Software Private Limited, which is PCI-DSS compliant, processes all payments on our behalf. Their privacy policy is available at razorpay.com/privacy.
- Other members: your name, JNV, batch, profile photo, and posts are visible to verified alumni inside the Platform. Direct messages are visible only to the participants.
- Service providers: hosting, email delivery, and analytics vendors who process data on our instructions under confidentiality.
- Legal authorities: when required by a valid court order, regulatory request, or to protect our rights and the safety of our members.
4. Data retention
We retain your account information for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we will erase or anonymise your personal data within 90 days, except where retention is required by law (for example, tax records relating to donations, which are retained for the statutorily mandated period).
5. Security
We use industry-standard safeguards: TLS/HTTPS for all traffic, hashed passwords (bcrypt), role-based access controls, and audit logging on the admin back-office. No method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure, but we work to protect your data and will notify you in the event of a breach affecting your personal information.
6. Your rights
You may at any time:
- Access, correct, or update your profile from the "Profile" section after logging in.
- Request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
- Request deletion of your account and associated data.
- Withdraw consent for non-essential communications.

7. Children
The Platform is intended for alumni who are at least 18 years old. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a minor has provided data, please contact us and we will delete the record.
8. Cookies
We use cookies and similar technologies to keep you signed in, remember preferences, and understand aggregate usage. You can disable cookies in your browser, but some features of the Platform may stop working.
9. Third-party links
The Platform may link to external sites (for example, the Razorpay checkout page, social media profiles, or news articles). We are not responsible for the privacy practices of those third parties; please review their policies separately.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be notified by email or via a prominent notice on the Platform at least 7 days before they take effect. Continued use after the effective date constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
